Hello everyone!
It’s that time of year again—time for the TRR Halloween Marathon guessing game! Since there are two marathons back-to-back this year, I’m going to do something a bit different. There will be three winning categories this year:
1. Highest overall score for all titles across both days - $100 Criterion/Vinegar Syndrome/DiabolikDVD gift card
2. Highest score for day 1 - $50 Criterion/Vinegar Syndrome/DiabolikDVD gift card
3. Highest score for day 2 - $50 Criterion/Vinegar Syndrome/DiabolikDVD gift card
Each individual entry can only win one of the three categories. In other words, if somebody guesses all the movies in the correct slots, they will just win the prize for #1. The other two prizes will go to the people who get the most points for each individual day. Note you do not have to be present at the marathon in order to win! There will be a couple of raffles during the last break for each day, though, and for those you will need to be online to win.
Scoring for the guessing game works as follows: Each slot is worth 2 points. If you guess the correct movie in the correct slot, you get both points. If you guess a movie that is showing, but not in the correct slot, you get one point. So for example, if you guess Phantasm for #1, you get two points if Phantasm is #1. However, if you guess Phantasm for any other numbered slot on either day, you get one point. (Please note Phantasm is not showing, and it’s in the wrong decade for the second half of the marathon anyway so don’t guess it!) This means there are 38 total points available across both days; people have won with as few as 3 points before, so don’t be intimidated! It’s definitely worth a shot.
Finally, a couple of things to keep in mind:
None of the films screening the marathon(s) have been shown at a previous TRR Halloween marathon or on TRR-TV. Check those links for Letterboxd lists to narrow down your guesses!
Since the entire second day consists of movies from a single decade, no films in the first day are from that decade. (Although one of them does have a copyright date in that decade, but it was released a few years later.)
If you’re on the Substack list, you can reply directly via email to this message with your entry. If you’re on the TRR-TV Discord you can also submit your guesses via direct message there. If you already have my email from previous entries, it’s the same as it was in previous years! Entries are due in by 11:59 p.m. (Central) on Friday 8 November. Winners will be announced during the breaks before the last movie each night. Overall winner will be announced Sunday night along with the day 2 winner.
And now for the main event! All times Central.
